I'm hopeful that since AI is attacking the livelihoods of middle class people that maybe some brakes will be applied to the endless war on humanity of the the tech bros seeking to "disrupt".

AI art techbros are the same people who laughed at me for getting an art degree and routinely devalued and criticized art, but now see it as amazing because it’s something they see as immediately accessible and profitable. It compensates for their lack of imagination.

Note: This is a topic I won’t spend time debating. Don’t try.
Something I’ve noticed about how certain groups treat artists in relevance to AI art, aside from some of the more horrific stuff:
This trend of people (the “audience”— mostly those advocating *for* AI art) feeling entitled to art. More specifically, entitled to the artist’s output, or “destination”, without having to think about the artist themselves or the “journey.” It’s almost as if they feel like they own the art more than the artist once it’s publicly accessible.
On one hand, I do think art should be shared and enjoyed, but ONLY at the behest and consent of the artist.
I’ve been making art all of my life and there have been pieces I’ve made that I’ve never shown anyone. I used to keep doodle journals as an outlet for my feelings. Some pieces or sketches I’ve done I’ve only shown to a small handful of people.
Those works were personal to me, some of them still exist, some of them don’t.
A lot of my characters, drawings, and paintings feel like a part of me; an extension of myself.
Like me, a lot of artists have some personal connection to their art or aspects of it. Art can often be an expression of who we are, what we’ve experienced, and can sometimes be used as an outlet for us.
I find it weird that there are people that think they *deserve* that sort of intimacy and imagination as a means to productize and commodify it. Art exists all around us— it influences literally every aspect of our lives, yet has a history of being equally revered and unappreciated.
I won’t speak for everyone, but in my experiences, artists like to share their original work when they feel safe, supported, and appreciated.
Let’s all make sure to we all make artists feel that way.
