I've been watching #StrangeNewWorlds on Spamazon Prime the past few days, and it's #TOS all over again, but with more elaborate production values.

It had me thinking about the inexplicable eternal fighting over which is better: #StarTrek or #StarWars?

The truth is, you can't compare the two. One is a social #allegory masquerading as #sciencefiction, the other is epic high #fantasy masquerading as science fiction. There's no comparison to be made—you are arguing #technobabble v. #magic.

#Quacks always use interesting sounding words borrowed from science - a bit like 'techno babble' in #StarTrek.

They have no idea what they exactly mean, but that's irrelevant. All that counts is that potential customers fall for it.

Spannendes Thema. Ich dachte ursprünglich ja auch, dass beim Beamen die Materie in Energie umgewandelt wird, mit dem mysteriösen Eindämmungsstrahl irgendwie entlang geschickt wird, und vor Ort wieder zusammen gesetzt wird.

Andere, leider realistisch klingendere Modelle sind, dass desintegrieren und dabei vernichten des zu beamenden. Dadurch werden alle Informationen zu Lage und Zustand der Teilchen erfasst und vor Ort als Replik wieder zusammen gesetzt. Das erklärt einige Transporter Unfall Folgen und auch die Abneigung von Admiral McCoy sich beamen zu lassen.

Es gab noch eine DS9 Folge "Unser Mann Bashir" in dem die enormen Datenmengen für das Bewusstsein vorkommen. Die Körper werden in einer aktiven Holosuite geparkt, aber für das Bewusstsein wird fast die sämtliche Kapazität des Stationscomputers gebraucht.

My five-year-old is an excellent #technobabble generator:
