Put another way: So much #TechSolutionism / #TechnoOptimism is predicated on deeply naive, profoundly ahistorical assumptions about quality of effort & purity of motive. It's like these people live in a different reality from me. It's especially jarring from a guy like this, who has decades of experience doing solid work, yet hasn't noticed what happens IRL all around him during any of that time.

But it’s also a useful meditation on the risks of ‘sticky’, normative thinking, and the prevalence of survivorship bias (esp among ‘leaders’) in a rapidly changing world.
