Of the things I'd love to see EFL textbook makers stop doing, one of the top ones is stop using #celebrities. So many have some reading that lauds a celebrity who has committed some awful act or series of acts that make teachers cringe to use them in a lesson. Historical figures are usually OK, though even they often have something unearthed about them. (The number of textbooks in #Japan that hold up #ThomasEdison as a great inventor is pretty embarrassing.)

It would be great if students had fediverse accounts and shared their langauge-learning sequences in OnLine-facilitated communities. The drawings should be produced with Free software too. People could transfer drawing from paper to svg, or draw directly to digital with Inkscape or Krita.. There's probably a way to do this with Racket's Pict too.. But for now I think jamming the first 2-koma together is the easiest way to get 4-koma posts from our 5-koma work. #EPGDM #TEFL

Thinking of a "career" change, of sorts. Anyone know anything about moving to #Brussels from the UK right now? My degree in linguistics is hopefully useful, and I am looking at online #TEFL courses (the ones I can afford).

Does anyone know anything about TEFL in Brussels, how in-demand people are, and the prospects for someone with a degree in linguistics but not years of experience teaching?

I'll have to vastly improve my French, of course, but I'm working on that already.

Lessons on Zoom have the potential to short-circuit boredom from several angles, but the instructor I observed didn't take advantage of any of them.

Fingers crossed that with some coaching he'll improve and make these hours more worth the students' while.

At the same time, I can breathe a little easier about the quality of time that students spend with me on this medium.

In 2012, I never really thought I'd ever get to this moment, but here I am after just over a decade, I've self-published 15 #TEFL textbooks for Japanese learners of English which cover a lesson a week for 45 weeks a year, for 15 years of statutory education, teaching everything a kid could need to learn about English from age three through age 18. I'd like to thank the Oxford University Press for constantly "improving" editions of their books which made me decide I could do my own better.
