Writing up the paperwork for my research practicum this semester where I'll be working through identifying the books I found in the inventories I transcribed this and last summer. Through the magic of XQuery and having transcribed in TEI, I've figured out that there are 35 inventories comprising 3,470 book entries to identify!! 😳 So doing that plus reading up on quantitative book history, bibliographic metadata, and research data practices oughta keep me out of trouble in the practicum...

There are some conventions the #TEI needs to adhere to to make the section navigation widget at the bottom work. But other than that, it's really just a matter of sticking in the TEI, and a GeoJSON for the places.

@gabrielhankins For text encoding: the #TEI Guidelines https://tei-c.org/release/doc/tei-p5-doc/en/html/index.html (and the philosophy behind them), together with the wealth of corpora and #DigitalScholarlyEditions encoded in TEI-XML. Gives you concrete examples with enough variation to design your own customisation for the project's needs. (Obvsly rather for teams/projects than classroom teaching, though it works there, as well.)

Hurrah for XSLT and stubborness! I figured out for one of our regular XSLT generated reports for manuscripts on the Chymistry of Isaac Newton project how to make it calculate the terminus post quem based on verified citations (citations we're sure we know the source) and verified plus high likelihood citations (we're pretty damn sure about the source). And to print which sources the dating is based off of. #XSLT #DH #XML #TEI #Newton #Chymistry #HistSci

Today is a big day for #DraCor: we release the 🇺🇦Ukrainian🇺🇦 Drama corpus! It started with a list of plays compiled by a Ukrainian philologist Bohdan Tokarskyi & was encoded in #TEI with some help from a Ukrainian comp. linguist
