I’m not sure if it was a Tektronix 4010 video terminal (1972), I still haven’t found exactly what I was thinking of, but this video shows the awesome text and graphics capabilities of the Tektronix 4010-4014, which gives off a distinct Escape From New York and TRON feel, and shows where cool movies got some inspiration from. We had some cool tech in the 1970s.

One of my students converted a photo of me to SVG, and another of my students converted that photo to Tek graphics codes and rendered it on my Tek 4010 terminal. And the result is brilliant. #retrocomputing #terminal #tektronix

My new year's resolution is maybe 4096x3152 but it's kinda difficult and maybe not so accurate to put it in those terms because it's a vector storage display and while the addressable vector endpoints are discrete values the lines between them are swept by an analog circuit in a continuous manner and so any notion of resolution would have to relate to the precision of the beam-steering circuitry itself and hey wait, where are you going?

(BTW: the compiler is very nearly done!)

I picked up a #tektronix TDS794D 4-channel 2GHz #oscilloscope on eBay. It was listed as broken with failed channels #1 and #2, plus weird power supply issues.

I found the problem with channel #1.

Incredibly, after completely removing the destroyed analog frontend package and cleaning up the board, the scope passes self-test - it seems to check for the presence of a fault, not whether the channel exists at all #electronics #repair #testequipment #fixit

I have worked on several #physics experiments that required low-noise low-frequency preamps, so I became friends with curve tracers. Here is my #Tektronix 577 displaying the common-emitter characteristics of a 2N4400 NPN transistor. Horizontal axis shows V_CE at 1V/div, vertical shows I_C at 2 mA/div, and base steps are 10 μA. It looks like h_fe is around 140 at I_C=10 mA, V_CE=1V. The old Motorola data sheet only says it should be greater than 40. #electronics #testequipment
