Day by day, its latest backup is becoming more stale ....I need to restore said #backup, eventually .... #telegraf in a #container has limited ability to transmit host #stats and I'm not finding a satisfying #solution because I don't want to #rpmostree install anything *especially* from some #dirty third party repo :ablobspin:

Something different/related: How do you decide between #InfluxDB 1.8 and 2.x? Why is there a v3, but not really because that's IOx?

I just want an efficient time series database. First sweep brought up #telegraf as the best tool to add data from things. I assumed, I should use InfluxDB with it. But am overwhelmed by options now.

On the negative side, it is now going to screw up all my #Telegraf metrics.... 😞

I knew that #cloudflare provides info via their cf-ray header on what POP actually returned the data. Unfortunately #telegraf can't extract that info into some sort of chart so I just wiped up a #curl one liner to extract timings (https://blog.josephscott.org/2011/10/14/timing-details-with-curl/) and save the cf-ray header.

I noticed yesterday morning normally I would be using the EWR pop, but then shift to the IAD and my latency would become spiky again. So my theory now is there some issue between YYZ (The pop I connect to) and IAD.

Today I'm being served out of YYZ directly but the shift to a different doesn't come until after 11am usually so I'll monitor it for now.

@train no, it was actually really quite easy but it might depend what you are using at the moment. I had #Telegraf on all of my nodes exporting metrics for #Prometheus - well it turns out Telegraf can also ship logs to #Loki! That and the #docker plug-in to ship logs covered almost everything

@emory I run #telegraf agents with defaults, sending the metrics to an #influxdb instance. simple graphing is built-in, or you can front it with #Grafana for more knobs. It’s pretty quick to get going and low maintenance - my cardinal rules for home nerdery.

Bruh, why is the TIG stack, Telegraf, InfluxDB, and Grafana, so much more difficult to set up than any other network monitoring solution that I have used, like Observium, LibreNMS, PRTG, etc?
