In 1932, during the Great Depression, around 1,000 Bronx residents harassed and fought marshals and the police in an attempt to prevent the eviction of 3 tenants. Together with similar actions in New York City throughout the early months of 1932, roughly 77,000 tenants were spared from eviction.
