Nog eventjes een anecdote over gisteren, van tijdens de demo tegen de anti-transbijeenkomst van de #TERFs, #Nazis en die ene #SP'er.

Tijdens onze demo zag ik een typische cisman waarvan ik dacht dat deze mogelijk tot het andere kamp behoorde. IK sprak deze daar rustig op aan. Ik had het helemaal mis! Mea culpa!!!

Wat bleek nou. Deze man was samen met zijn vrouw/partner naar #Utrecht gekomen voor een erg speciale reden. Voor hun kind. Vorige week namelijk was hun kind in #Leiden door de #politie in elkaar geslagen, alleen omdat hun kind voor diens* rechten als queer opkwam (*ik weet niet met welke letter(s) van LHBTQIA+ hun kind zich identificeert). Diens* ouders waren dus speciaal naar Utrecht gekomen om a. solidariteit te tonen met andere queers, b. verhaal te halen bij de politie. En ja, de vader kwam gisteren zelfs met de wapenstok in aanraking. Dit allemaal uit liefde voor hun kind. 💜

Aan alle #ouders; volg dit voorbeeld! Dit is echte liefde! En nogmaals mijn excuses voor deze fantastische ouders dat ik ze verkeerd identificeerde. Ik bleek ook niet de enige te zijn. Er ware namelijk meerdere infiltranten gisteren, dus in die sfeer wordt er dan een verkeerde inschatting gemaakt.

Wie er nog aan twijfelde, hierbij een foto van die #SP'er tussen de TERF's, Nazi's en ander fascistisch gespuis. Natuurlijk niet de officiële partijlijn, maar wanneer je zulke lui aantrekt als partij, dan is er iets goed mis. Maar dat wisten we al.

Looked up the "self-proclaimed feminist organization" mentioned in the article, and it appears to be one grumpy older woman with a website full of scummy SEO tricks and run of the mill #transphobe bullshit.

Her latest article is called "I'm not a terf", and it's full of things terfs would say.

Why exactly did someone think asking for her opinion was anything more than a waste of time?

Sarah Jane Baker, the trans #woman who was arrested for saying "punch #terfs" at #London #Pride, is now on hunger strike and refusing all food and fluids until she is moved to a women's prison.

Just so we're clear, moving her to a women's prison would be the bare fucking minimum the state could do. She shouldn't be in prison at all, the police and parole board only changed their decision not to arrest her due to pressure from the Home Office. Once again, #SuellaBraverman is an overreaching authoritarian piece of shit.

It's interesting the way this discussion developed from the 'macho, brutal side to the left' to the strange similarity between #terfs and the religious right.

I see a connection here with what I call the 'year-zero' fallacy - perhaps most clearly expressed by Mao: "On a blank sheet of paper free from any mark, the freshest and most beautiful characters can be written."

The mistake here - the mistake of the Terror, the Gulag, Pol Pot, etc - and indeed of terfs, the religious right, fascists, etc - is to refuse history: to imagine a pure starting point free from the messy reality of humanity and nature.

Political centrism - really the ideology of the status-quo - often envisages the political spectrum not as views distributed along a line, with the extreme left and right at opposite ends, but as a circle, with the extremes joined at the opposite point to their own position, which they see as non-ideological, 'pragmatic', or a-political.

But if centrism is the ideology of the status quo, and the extremes really are its opposite, then they are surely precisely at the year-zero point - and I don't think either of these opposed ideological positions really have much to do with most of the political left or indeed right - both of which I see as grounded in reality rather than ideology: the right in existing wealth and privilege, and defending it; the left in the reality of exploitation and oppression, and challenging it.

Hier war er bloß Schlausprech für Wir-versus-Die, 🤷‍♀️ Das Ganze wurde übrigens noch mit Kriegsrhetorik garniert. Eine Art, die mich an Rechtspopulist:innen, #Incels, #TERFs erinnert. I think this makes a very fair point. I would add that cis males in positions of power tended to be wary of offending #terfs - and this may well have affected both the #bbc and the #guardian particularly! It would have been possible to get to a more balanced and nuanced position - as some people did elsewhere - even an alleged "Transphobe" as some have been kind enough to label me - but it needed cunning, guile and luck. Where I worked unpaid it was done but it was not easy.
