For the #SciArtSeptember prompt “simian” I made a new edition to my ongoing series of animals with fabulous collective nouns. It’s A Conspiracy of Lemurs. These ring-tailed lemurs definitely appear to be up to something. Caught in the act of scheming. The word “lemurs” mimics their tails, of course!

A kaleidoscope of butterflies for #PollinatorWeek as they are great #pollinators! #MastoArt

A collection of butterflies is called 'a kaleidoscope', suggesting a flutter of colourful, symmetric, beauties. I am making a series on the weird and wonderful terms of venery - the collective nouns for groups of animals (and other things). Some are evocative, some strange and obscure.

For #PollinationWeek, cause plants get pollinated at night too. I love how moths in French are “night butterflies” so here’s the night shift.

The delightful term for a group of moths is an eclipse. This hand-printed lino block print shows five of the noctural moths of Ontario in front of the moon at a lunar eclipse.

A Parliament of Owls: linocut for #printdayinmay2023!

I love the whimsical terms of venery for groups of animals and have an ongoing series of #linocut #termsOfVenery prints. For my parliament of owls I made two columns of local owls - you can decide for yourself which are the government an which the loyal opposition in this parliament! Specifically chose some gothic #lettering and Owl with 👁 and 🪶

Today is also Crow and Raven Appreciation Day ! I definitely appreciate the corvids. They are so wonderfully clever. Raven is a trickster for a reason.
