What does a service "normally provided for remuneration" as defined in Directive (EU) 2015/1535) mean?
Are these all services where similar types are usually offered for payment? Or does *your service* need to be for remuneration in order to be covered by this definition?
I think the answer to this will determine to what extent #Fediverse instances must comply with #DSA, #TERREG and similar laws, won't it?

Right now they can at least pretend to be somewhat neutral towards content.
As for why they don't run an instance for themselves, it's probably a mix of not being interested in a project which seems a bit anticapitalistic and not having any skills in community management/moderation (see also above).

For now, operating social media is too much of a legal liability for an entity with hundreds of M€ to lose. It might be ok for some non-profit with limited liability to be granted permission to use a non-primary domain/TM for the purpose though.
Meanwhile, talk to these SMM asleep at the wheel who have not yet joined the fediverse!
