Of the things I'd love to see EFL textbook makers stop doing, one of the top ones is stop using . So many have some reading that lauds a celebrity who has committed some awful act or series of acts that make teachers cringe to use them in a lesson. Historical figures are usually OK, though even they often have something unearthed about them. (The number of textbooks in that hold up as a great inventor is pretty embarrassing.)

@serenissimaj he wasn't fired for using , but rather, for collaborating with Russians and others? Or am I reading that wrong? It does raise the question...is it OK to use ChatGPT to "smooth" out the wrinkles in your writing? One can see how that would be attractive use for English as a second language speakers/authors.
