'Af en toe werpt ze in haar antwoorden een nieuwe vraag op. āIk vraag me nog altijd af of ik het project in deze tijd zou kunnen publicerenā, zegt ze opeens.'

I hope you get a chance to watch #The1619Project. The trolls on IMDB hate it. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14489308/?ref_=tt_urv
@eosfpodcast I watched the 6-part TV series of #The1619Project and the only thing that truly surprised me, as a foreigner, is that there are so many Americans who say the content is shocking or controversial. It's not - or it shouldn't be. It's just history which I had thought would be common knowledge to all Americans, given how prone to nationalistic navel gazing the country generally is.
To all white + non-Black liberals, progressives + āalliesā: Understand the U. S. has ALWAYS been fascist.
You canāt assert āAll men are created equalā while concurrently ENSLAVING a fifth of the population- who are considered subhuman.
Facts: There NEVER was a period in the U. S. When Black Americans can say āthe good old days.ā The U.S. has ALWAYS been divided.
When you express shock at anti-Black racism + racial injustice, then proclaim āThis isnāt who we areā and āThe country is so dividedā that proves how effective this nationās propaganda is.
Itās why true accountings of this nationās full history (like #the1619project) must be taught + acknowledged.
Yes, these are uncomfortable and hard truths that must be faced for any hope of concrete change to occur.
Please be more sensitive. #antiracism #racism #equality #Justice

Finishing the book, #The1619Project and itās beenā¦hard mentally, emotionally. Itās also been powerful + necessary for me to read about my ancestorsā sojourn of terror in the U. S.
How they courageously fought + resisted at EVERY turn for their freedom, human rights, families, and dignity. Itās STILL a battle.
Being a sci-fi fan, I will say, there is NO dystopian or post-apocalyptic narrative that comes close to the historical experience of Being Black in the U. S.
This country owes such an enormous debt and humans are the real monsters. #BlackMastodon #BlackFedi #mustread #GoodReads

Read Ibram X. Kendi's chapter on Progress in The 1619 Project book to open your eyes to examples of this strategy to dismiss current systemic racism.
It's opened my eyes a little to something I was missing before.

My personal #BlackHistoryMonth goal for this year was to learn something new or tie in a truth to established norms. Suffice it to say that #the1619project on Hulu, episode 4: Capitalism took me to school (which ironically my own schooling never did).
I highly recommend everyone viewing this episode regarding Americaās economic development.

The docuseries expansion of āThe 1619 Projectā on Hulu really does a great job, in each episode, of focusing on a particular thematic throughline and connecting issues today with our history of racism and slavery. Highly recommended! https://press.hulu.com/shows/the-1619-project/

"āThe 1619 Projectā is not divisive or anti-American. Itās about showing Black Americans what weāve been through and what weāre capable of and honoring those, Black and White, who sacrificed so much so that we could continue our fight against racism.
Teaching Black history is about showing us, after all weāve been through and are still going through, that we are all truly Americans.
No wonder some are so desperate to stop it."

"I felt like an American in a way that has eluded me for most of my life. I didnāt dwell on the people who perpetrated these atrocities. I found myself drawn only to the strength, resilience and resolve of the people who overcame them.
Those who focus on the idea that telling these truths is ādivisiveā are centering White feelings about our real history."
