Back to reading The Artists Way this afternoon.
How many of your career choices were dictated by your family?
I found this quote, by Jung (p.26), interesting as a lot of us have been directed into 'safe' careers by our parents. Luckily, my computing career met with parental approval and was my choice. I had a job I enjoyed and suited my talents. Yet, I still felt I'd been limited in my choices and returned to art studies later on.

You've made some very important connections here.
Our subconscious beliefs are the basis on which our conscious efforts are built.
Without a sound foundation it's easy to fall into the traps of the Hero Myth or the Saviour.
In a lesson on recovery from emotional trauma, I saw that tackling outdated subconscious beliefs is the key to successful spiritual and emotional growth!

- another quiet day, just as well since I'm still low on spoons (energy)
- watched more of a lesson on recovery from emotional trauma. I see overlaps with guidance on paths to spiritual growth and emotional wellbeing. I expect this applies to aspects of physical health too
#SelfCare
- read more of #TheArtistsWay Finished the chapter about The Basic Tools. The next section is Recovering A Sense of Safety, which seems apt during a pandemic
Writing and #TheArtistsWay update.
I recently suggested to my local litfest that I could do a writing for comics event for them.
I've run a couple of these before.
What would you like to learn on a comics workshop?

I'm reading #TheArtistsWay at the moment and also wondering about my energy levels, after being unwell again for 2 weeks.
:blobsleeping:
After you mentioned the book, I went to see where that phrase is in the text -- it turns out I've just got to the right page -
p.20: Filling the Well, Stocking the Pond
:blobtada:
- Feeling stronger today, after being unwell (cold, gut issues and fatigue symptoms) for a fortnight. My new mask seems to be a loose fit and I live near 3 schools. Going to my local shop is risky af. I might've thought it was just me but my London friend had similar symptoms after visiting.
😷
- Read more of #TheArtistsWay instead of watching TV
- after the wind died down, I rescued my food bin from the hedge, so that's ok. I also took a short walk.

Thanks Amanda!
Yes, it's been a great start.
#TheArtistsWay got me thinking.
The fanzine article was a useful return to writing.
I now understand dialogue better, after more writing community chat
This week's workshop, by Cathy Galvin, looked at linking memories to a landscape. That's new for me.
I hope your birthday and writers retreat goes brilliantly! :blobcatbook:
Today I'm thinking about doing more drawing practice, but what subjects?
I usually combine drawing with a walk but it's colder this week, so it may be time to switch to still life or photo ref.
Going to read #TheArtistsWay for more inspiration.
P.s. The books in this image are local library books, rather than what's on my own shelves.

Hi from ohai!
I also use emojis all over the place.
Self-dx AuDHD.
Started #TheArtistsWay a month ago and ended up writing for a fanzine that goes to print this week.
I usually paint and draw on location, as an urban sketching practice.
A sort of update on #TheArtistsWay for
my fellow creatives:
@AmandaDSmith @allisonwyss
@simonpayn @andyluke
The comics history fanzine I'm in should be going to print this week. The kickstarter ended up 262% or more funded!
In a separate (paid) project - I'm supplying some art for my local lit fest. As funds are tight, they've also given me a writing workshop ticket, so I'm excited to see if my recent insights about dialogue will pay off.

Have I got to look in the book to find out what week 4 of #TheArtistsWay was about?
I'm guessing it was an enforced break of some kind.
:blobcatreading:
@andyluke @AmandaDSmith @simonpayn
As you asked for an update ...
:ablobcatneon:
The zine (by @simonrussell) is now fully funded. I think today was the last day of the kickstarter. It has done amazingly well, even before its published.
108 backers pledged £1,166 to help bring this project to life!

Back after surviving Week 4 of #TheArtistsWay (*?*!*%*??o*grr), and excited to begin Week 9, where a task asks me to read Morning Pages. Yes ma'am!
168 pages. Pray for me lol
@nicole Yes. I read #TheArtistsWay back in 1992 (!), and lots of these observations felt like revelations *at the time.*
I've also read the Steven Pressfield material that covers much the same territory.
Lots of cross-talk in creative process books ... but this is the first that felt a bit derivative to me. I mean, some lines essentially quote other work without attribution.
Perhaps I've become as curmudgeonly as you are chaotic!
I'm struggling with #RickRuben's #TheCreativeAct, where a lot of the content strikes me as trite and familiar, especially if you've read any book on #creativity, ever.
- "Spend time in nature."
- "Come up with rituals."
- "Eat mindfully."
- "Keep a dream journal."
- "You can't step into the same stream twice."
I've stepped into most of this advice, multiple times, in many books (#TheArtistsWay, for example). 😕 Why is this book so well-reviewed? If you loved it ... what did you love about it?

A Short Story of Creativity
(with blobcats)
