Sto leggendo di Olivia Blake, inizialmente ero dubbiosa ma devo ammettere che mi sta prendendo..il ritmo è da film ma in fondo era prevedibile visto le varie competenze dell’autrice.

After reading The Atlas books, I’ve unofficially become a quote bot.

Why were these books so addictive and how did I go from hating Callum to loving another psychopathic narcissist again?

Last week I read the first two books of the Scholomance Triliogy and the most recent Peter Grant/Rivers of London novel.

Going back to the familiar writing style of RoL made me realize what bothered me about scholomance, as well as The Atlas Six that I read late last year.

They feel like impressionist paintings. There's such an internal focus in both writers style that any tension that could be developed is dissolved in favor of the internal monolog.

The Atlas Six felt like nothing happened. There were events that drove the story forward but they were given in the form of character study. Leaving me with a clear almost profound view of each character. While the events, and the surroundings they play in nothing but swirls and blobs of paint giving the impression of substance with little clarity.

The two Scholomance books read like they are meant to be consumed without thought with the writer pulling you along. Which works for the most part. I think the want of the "truly happy ending" undermines the set up and tension the author tries to build with the idea of a school over ran by monsters. Instead of an impression of substance there's flat shadows, whether monsters, the school, or the other kids, that peel away from the MC with little seeming risk that isn't spelled out in the internal monolog.

I don't think either of these series are written poorly. I devoured them while reading and they kept my attention even if they were unsatisfying.

is a wonderful dissection of how power can shape character, the polarity involved, and how perception of the self effects perception of others, but it's not the urban fantasy/mystery I expected from the blurb. I'd recommend it, with the understanding that it wasn't my cup of tea.

is an expected YA read that will keep you occupied. It's interesting premise drew me in, and the writers style kept my attention, until the premise was completely discarded with only brief glimpses of the "dark and dangerous" world that was promised by the blurb. I don't recommend at all, due to the unsatisfying end of the second.

Ich liebe den Anfang von Büchern. Wenn die Charaktere vorgestellt werden. Es gibt nix schöneres.
