Folk who have been acquainted for years may remember I used to be a music photographer. It's not something I do much nowadays (for lots of reasons) but I pull my camera bag out of retirement a couple of times a year to photograph my dear friends The Pink Singers, Europe's longest-running LGBTQ+ choir who perform a show at Cadogan Hall in London.

Maybe - just maybe - it's persuaded me I should be photographing more.

This production of City of Angels which I photographed back in 2016 is a terrific example of how , , and work together in . For those unfamiliar with the show, it tells parallel stories set in both the real world (represented by colour) and 1940s film noir movie world (represented in black and white).

Through careful choices in costume, warm and cool lighting, and set colour palette, you can easily tell which world each is in, and the illusion holds up even when the actors stand close to each other!

City of Angels | Life Like Company | Arts Centre Melbourne | Nov 2015

Director: Martin Croft; Lighting: Tom Willis; Costume: Kim Bishop; Wigs: Corrine Day; Set: Robert Alexander Smith
