I haven't posted many #barefoot walks this month, which means I'm already violating my own New Year's resolution to post at least one a week. That's because it's been far too hot to walk anywhere!

That said, last week hubby and I discovered a café that we really like. It's Sipriana Café located on the Capital Gateway building's second floor. We're both hooked on their all-day breakfasts, so we've made it a rule to go there every Sunday — it's our treat.

Well, we're going to need a treat day — we're both signing up for the gym (again) on Tuesday. That's the other part of my New Year's resolution needing actioning: 30 minute walks every day. On those days when it's a bit too hot or a bit too cold, the treadmills will leave me with zero excuse.

Oh, and yes, haircut. My head is chilly.

Merry Xmas Eve! Less of a #barefoot walk and more of a bus ride, we went to Moore Wilson's to brave the crowds for our traditional (to us) Christmas fish. Salmon and tuna!

Sadly, no charming line art on the Courtenay Place Xmas tree like last year, so I decided to liven the place up my own way.

Guess which bus stop we took to get home. Hint: it's the one outside the recently reopened St James theatre. Enough of a clue?

On our way back, we found this statue of Keith Holyoake, 26th prime minister. Under his watch, capital punishment was removed from law. The rest of his tenure is a bit here and there, but that's one thing for which to be thankful.

These pou were gifts by Te Atiawa to mark where the beach line was, and the entrance to Kumutoto & Pipitea pa. A pa was a fortified village; functionally, they no longer exist, the land long since covered with modern developments.

Gosh my legs need more sunlight, though! Hard to do in Wellington where it's sunny enough for a tan for approximately 45 minutes a year. Rivals Northland for humidity at its worst, though.

We caught the train from the historical Railway Station which opened in June 1937. 85 years! NZ is so young.

In Porirua, we headed to North City Plaza, the main shopping mall (there are also a couple of outdoor strip malls). Though we didn't wind up buying anything, we did get a snap with this tree.

Happy holidays! We had a #barefoot walk to stir up our appetites for an early Xmas dinner. We saw these Christmas tree boards all over the main streets.1st, a blue one. If it’s blue, I’m there. Next, one as the Māori flag. Just after dinner, we saw the Starry Night tree; not sure what it had to do with Xmas but I liked it anyway.Last one is a rare snap: I don’t often sit in pics because it makes my gut more apparent but it was so comfy on the grass!

I don't know if I can qualify a bus tour as a #barefoot walk — but the mini-hike reduced all sympathy for *not* counting it

I dipped my feet in the water for a moment but it was FAR too cold.Getting up to this WWII-era building built atop Mahanga Pā, at the top of a huge slope, was murder on my back. Another #barefoot walk through Wellington City on a fine-ish Summer-ish day. We went for a stroll along the waterfront to get groceries from the Sunday market, then stopped by these huge sculptures by Ben Pearce. I liked the panda and the pukeko the best; there was also a monkey and lizard. Panda was cute!

Further along, under the overbridge, I noticed the concrete boilerplate of a poem about #Wellington Patrick Lawlor from 1959

There was a bench, dedicated to the memory of a 10 y/o boy, William John Morris, who drowned in 1891 trying to save his younger brother. I had a cousin who died the same way who I didn't know well but took a moment to remember
