Like most transgressive high schoolers in the Bush years, I was a pretty dedicated Chuck Palahniuk fanatic in my teens. His book Tell All was initially supposed to be set in 1920s Hollywood on the periphery of many of the 20s tabloid scandals. The publisher feared not enough people would know enough to “get it,” thus driving down sales and forced him to change it to the 1950s. I imagine Arbuckle would have shown up once or twice in the original draft.
