"The Sacred Band [of ], we are told, was first formed by , of 300 chosen men, to whom the city furnished exercise and maintenance and who encamped in the Kadmeia. But some say that this band was composed of lovers and beloved."

Really interesting about the Sacred Band of Thebes (you know, the squad of 150 male lover couples) and how they broke the spell of Spartan invincibility.

In Egyptian mythology the ancient god Osiris was killed and dismembered by his brother Seth.

In an inscription at the temple of Edfu a list is preserved with the locations where the relics of Osiris were kept: His head in Abydos, his legs in Thebes.

Today, while looking at images from the Tomb of Nakht, Tomb TT52, in Thebes, I saw this painting of a charming scene.
Detail of the bottom right corner is shown in the second image. The third image is a similar crop of a reproduction from more modern times: "Banquet Scene with Musicians, Tomb of Nakht" by Norman de Garis Davies, rendered in Tempera on paper, A.D. 1909–1914, based on the original ca. 1400–1352 B.C.
