Kracauer offers this interpretation of Caligari: originally Caligari was supposed to be a protest against war, where psychiatrist Caligari was forcing the innocent somnambulist Ceasar to kill. One one of the authors fell in conflict with his military psychiatrist and that was too one of the reasons why psychiatrist was depicted as evil.

I hope for something intriguing by coming back to "Between Caligari and Hitler". And this chapter will be on Caligari itself. The author can sketch out the life of the city and its culture so nicely. So the authors of Caligari were Czech and Austrian? Very interesting. These countries have such rich and intriguing culture.
