The Cars - Shake it Up

Often considered a "weaker" Cars album, I don't know - it's the last Roy Thomas Baker produced record, and I think it's pretty darn strong.

Hard to believe that the track Shake Iit Up was the Cars' first top-10 hit...which isn't to say it's not great, but this the third album in a row that's just packed with great (albeit "lightweight") songs.

Anyway, more great "new wave" pop.

Been playing #thecars Heartbeat City #vinyl. The sound is a bit jarring at times with 1984 Mutt Lange production all over it. However it spawned 6 hit singles and it up there with their debut album. Contains Drive, so that’s sufficient for many. A really great band that rarely toured in the UK sadly

Just decided to re-compare against the new Rhino release, which is, indeed, better than my original. But this, my original, is really good. I remain pleased with my younger self's record care...45 years later and nary a pop, and the cover's great.

Asides: Who would have imagined, watching him in this video, that Ocasek (shown here with a Dean Cadillac, i have one, it weighs over 9 pounds, no hyperbole) would eventually become the face of #TheCars. Easton and Orr are the obvious "rock stars" here.

This new release from Rhino isn't just well mastered by Kevin Grey, it's pressed at Optimal on heavy, flat vinyl, and packaged in a tip-on gatefold with liner notes and a picture of the master tape box, which includes a bonus, handwritten Your/You're goof!

You know you like this album: there's not a bum track on it. Not sure how it's going to get better than this copy.
