Last night I wrote out a backstory for a side character and managed to tie a few things together and give them the lynchpin role they deserved.

It’s a bit of a tragic backstory, so I wrote a note saying that my wife would cry on hearing it.

I read it to her this morning, and she did, so I’m on the right track.

A fine second (and final?) volume about life during the religious wars in France and the Netherlands. One particular storyline is somewhat implausible, but all in all this is an entertaining book. 3,5⭐
