#TheCribs claimed they were into #Queen at the time of recording this album, but that isn't heard much in the music, although the music video for Glitters certainly shows that (pictured)
there's also a four song suite closing the album, something completely new for the Cribs, and yes: the suite is excellent especially the song "Butterflies"
#AbbeyRoadMedleyEsque
basically, this is my favorite Cribs album, infectiously catchy and discovering new things every listen.
#thecribs #queen #abbeyroadmedleyesque
from the opening track alone: "Glitters Like Gold" one hears Ryan trying new things with his guitar playing, obviously impressed/intimated by Marr, incorporating new techniques like shredding into the chorus, albeit toned down & sloppy in typical #TheCribs fashion
Glitters encapsulates the entire album; just as catchy as anything on their first three albums while being more focused yet retaining the #CribsEssence with a newfound crunchiness
IN THE BELLY OF THE BRAZEN BULL #TheCribs 5th album
Johnny Marr #LeftTheBand; i guess working with three goofball brothers who mortally wound themselves by rolling over tables at the NME music awards is too much, or Johnny Marr is just a control freak.
either way, Johnny's stint with the band rubbed off permanently, as this is #PROBABLY The Cribs #BESTRECORD; it reintroduces the sloppy #PartyPowerPop of their early work and merges it with newfound technical proficiency into a catchy fusion.
#thecribs #lefttheband #probably #bestrecord #partypowerpop
#TheCribs 4th album IGNORE THE IGNORANT sees #GuitarGenius Johnny Marr join & it's immediately obvious; their most technically competent and well produced album. Ryan Jarman and Marr together is a once-in-a-billion-years-cosmic-event that producrd some of the most infectious guitar melodies ever; while the interplay between the two guitarists isn't #Television, ItJustWorksβ’ even though one gets the impression Marr took the lead as there are less repetitive lines and more #Smiths melodies.
#thecribs #guitargenius #television #smiths
i think only someone with a few screws loose could write guitar riffs like the one in the 2nd verses, which is one of the allures of #TheCribs
#TheCribs 2nd album "The New Fellas" won NME's 2005 album of the Year award -- no idea why.
In my #ExpertOpinion there are only two songs worth listening to on repeat, and that's "Hey Scenesters!", an evolution of the dual-vocals approach where #TheTwins Ryan and Gary sound like overdubs during the chorus sticks in your mind like toxoplasmosis (in a good way) and "Mirror Kisses" with its instantly memorable "oh-oooh" motif.

lastly, and this is important: ANOTHER NUMBER
the guitar line, immediately sounds like four-year-old first time playing guitar but it's somehow instantly memorable and melodic, then it goes into a repetitive "dududududududu" then back to the immature melodic guitar line. this is very #THECRIBS; one gets the impression that the band is learning as they record, and can feel/hear the natural talent beyond the untrained
#TheCribs first album is British #TheStrokes; excellent from start to finish, despite wearing its influences on its sleeve. Ryan's guitar is hyper repetitive yet has an ear for incredibly catchy chord progressions that shine through briefly during brief moments of respite from the chaotic; and the chaos is brilliant too. Brothers vocals are teenaged and punkish, immature but work well; this is learning of ropes, impressive because this is their 2nd best record, according to my #ExpertOpinion
#thecribs #thestrokes #expertopinion
ok, #TheCribs are my favorite band right now. and this feels like the quintessential Cribs song.
extremely #sloppy yet tight, loud with the #SoftBits, angst-ridden reflective commentary, nasty but terribly melodic.
quite "not quite" when first hearing the song but something makes you listen to it again, and then again, and again after that.
the shift from #sludgy verses into the extra #hyper chorus also another common #CribsMotif
