94 followers · 35 posts · Server aus.socialFor a decade that was so wild for the Royal Family, I think season five (1991-mid 1997) is the weakest season dramatically.
I wonder if it's because I remember most of the major events and so there were few surprises. It also made the fictional beats feel less convincing to me, even though all the behind-the-palace-doors stuff from S1-4 was also invented for the show.
The best episode was the one about Mohammed El-Fayed. His connection to Edward VII because of his valet was really interesting and learning about El-Fayed's life was a reasonable precursor to his and Dodi's involvement with Diana later.
Such a great cast, though. The idea to change out casts every two seasons is inspired and is still paying off. It really sells the temporal scope of it all.
Also, can someone tell Peter Morgan that pointing out his bad metaphors in the text doesn't absolve him for using bad metaphors?

Ich finde viele Darsteller unpassend - und ob man die Geschichte von Charles und Diana nun nochmal bis ins intimste Detail ausschlachten muss, frage ich mich schon! Auch das Interview mit Diana, das unter fragwürdigen Bedingungen zustande kam. Nee, ist dieses Mal nicht so meins. Und die schlechten Kritiken bestätigen mich in meinem Empfinden.
