Definitely a mood music if I ever heard one. I love this album, especially the title track, but this one is special to me.

Is “Meloy” short for “Melancholy”? Jokes aside, this one fits that a little bleak and nihilistic, but in a sort of Mr. Peanutbutter kind of way mood to a T. Side note: the title track is probably my favorite Decemberists.

Today’s listening is ‘Long Live The King’, the 2011 EP by The Decemberists.
This six track EP comprises songs that did not make the final cut for their excellent 2011 album ‘The King Is Dead’ (see what they did with the respective titles there?!).
This was probably peak 'Americana' country/folk Decemberists style and a couple of the tracks on this EP remind me very much of The Band.
Excellent stuff!

Today’s listening is ‘Fortune’, the 2014 album by Black Prairie.
Black Prairie were, essentially, the members of The Decemberists except with a female lead singer (Annalisa Tornfelt, who also plays the violin) instead of Colin Meloy.
This was their last album and they went out in style, this being a solid collection of tunes, musically leaning towards the more ‘American folk’ end of things.
Well worth a listen!
