Inarticulate guys endure inexpressible horror. Trauma divides them from their family back home as sharply as the war divided hawks and doves.
Christopher Walken and Robert De Niro remind you they weren't always parodies of themselves. POW sequences are riveting. Final scene is unsatisfying and that may be the point.

O MVP foi sem dúvida o De Niro, que claramente se preparou com ninguém e ultrapassou a caricatura de classe trabalhadora manchado pela guerra, dando profundidade ao Michael. Como já dei a entender, achei a ideia da roleta russa um bocado ridícula, além de que me deixou a ideia de que a glorifica, mas, dito isto, a última cena do jogo é no mínimo memorável, muito bem construída, com tensão, e o Walken fora de série.

A parte no Vietnam também não fiquei muito fã, os vietnamitas são usados apenas como dispositivo narrativo e, ou são bestas sádicas no Viet Congs, ou vitimas sem nome na população. A ideia aqui parece ser hiperbolizar a forma como a violência e a hiper-masculinidade tolda a razão, mas não funcionou comigo.

Na primeira, talvez por contraste, acabou por valorizar mais o segmento anterior (casamento). Foi aqui duas das minhas cenas favoritas do filme: o monologo do "This is This".

Vi também a comunidade como uma espécie de fan fiction classista do que é uma cidade operária do rust belt, rude e pouco educada.
O segmento do casamento foi talvez o que gostei menos, poderia ter sido muito mais conciso a estabelecer as personagens.
Os que gostei mais foi sem dúvida os das viagens de caça, esses sim mais eficazes no desenvolvimento das personagens.

A última vez que vi o filme foi há 15 anos.Lembrava-me de pouco. Quando pensava no filme só me vinha o Deliverance à cabeça. Provavelmente pelo male bonding em comum.
Deu-me o feeling que o script foi escrito retroativamente com base num jogo roleta russa como prova de masculinidade, e só por isso a comunidade russo-americana.
