We broke free, out of the walled gardens we were living on, and marveled at the open spaces that allowed us to finally see, and talk to, each other. And yet, what immediately comes to mind at the first sign of trouble is to build a new shiny wall to protect us from evil.

This reminds me of the first paragraphs of Ursula Le Guin's "The Dispossessed". What side of the wall are we on?

I started reading #UrsulaKLeGuin’s #TheDispossessed last night and already found a great quote I had to read a few times to better understand:

“If the foreman had no experience in bossing a mob, they had no experience in being one. Members of a community, not elements of a collectivity, they were not moved by mass feeling; there were as many emotions there as there were people. And they did not expect commands to be arbitrary, so the had no practice in disobeying them.“

@ridetheory Compare that to my sister doing me the favor of having me read #UrsulaLeGuin's #TheDispossessed, which both lessened the inflammation created by #RobertHeinlein's #TheMoonIsAHarshMistress and immunized me against #AynRand's work.

That changed my life for good, and prevented me from taking that crap seriously.
