Are you a recent #TwitterRefugee? Welcome & make yourself comfortable! #TheFediverse may seem strange at first, but once you get settled in you’ll find that it’s a much more comfortable place
3 Tips
1) Follow, Follow, Follow. Remember, you curate your own timeline, not an algorithm.
2) Boost, boost, boost. This is the best way to get content out there for others to see. (Like a RT)
3) Post & Engage. Make sure you post your own content & reply to others
#Mastodon
H/T to @ceresbzns for MEME idea
#twitterrefugee #thefediverse #mastodon
@phillip i had to look it up, but it sounds both heavenly and/or possibly cultlike? I mean, It sounds like living in a perfect small town with access to a big city with an open minded population versus a small town in The Bible belt with 5 churches per person and "proud they've kept out the gays. And the black people. And most of the Mexicans, except the good hard working kind."
But I can at least afford to move in #TheFediverse
@Natasha_Jay
@MasonBee
I'm expecting more than a few who previously trashed the very concept of Mastodon / #TheFediverse to come over as if nothing ever happened.
I'm also expecting most of them to come over and adopt the same behaviour, gaining little traction because they refuse to interact with anyone except other journos.
@kriskosach Servers might just be struggling. Eventually I suspect #TheFediverse will disperse more sparsely across many more #instances #servers and the ebb and flow of ease of uploading will become familiar.
#thefediverse #instances #servers
Theoretically, other than when first signing up, where might i see an indication of how many users my #instance has? I agree with the concept of #limitingGrowth to ensure safe #moderation of the #TheFediverse
I mean, #FuckCancer in all its forms.
#instance #limitinggrowth #moderation #thefediverse #fuckcancer
@verolynne maybe we hope they will build a nest here and decide to just stay. #thefediverse
@guncelawits @stavvers home feed is folks you ask inside to say hi to kids or pups,share a pot of coffee, maybe a bowl. Instance is like your local community- you recognize them, see them more often and people associate you as from there. #TheFediverse is all the rest. You have to follow people to see them and keep up, they don't have to move to your community for you to be friends or even family. You can also invite them to your home to visit more often

I still want to find a way to easily translate (until/unless my instance can afford translation) so I can check out the rest of #TheFediverse
#lessonslearned #community #humankind #thefediverse
As a once habitual early adopter of tech, I can say one will likely lose most of what one accumulates, even the stuff one really likes. Seems it's best not to become too attached.
That said, it still felt weird to elect to autodelete after 2 weeks for the sake of my instance and #TheFediverse as a whole
Then, immediately after I did it, I felt just a *teensy bit* more free.

Intimacy Does Not Scale
... We’re having a public conversation in a very large room with really strange acoustics. Whispers carry 'round the world (and beyond), and resonate for years. And yes, this means others can listen, and engage. There are many people who seem to believe this is not the case. Unfortunately, that’s a belief strongly at odds with reality. Such misalignments often result in disappointment. ...

@tari_alfaro@mastodon.technology @Framasoft The whole point of #thefediverse is that, as far as possible, you control your own data - since the only way to monetise videos is to allow adverts, which usually requires handing over all sorts of data from the users to the advertisers, this is pretty much the opposite of what the Fediverse is all about.
