I have finally gotten around to reading The Goblin Emperor, by Katherine Addison.

Oh boy it's good. Reminds me of Daughter of the Empire. Maia is the 4th son of the Elvish Emperor & is half Goblin, his mother having been the Emperor's 3rd wife.

When disaster strikes he is suddenly to be Emperor, he was sent to live away from court at age 9 when his mother died and now the unthinkable has happen, & he has an empire to manage.
