I always talk too much & run outta room when it's about ⚾️! Can't help it!
I also want to say that THIS SATURDAY will mark the 50th anniversary of the passing of - his plane crashed while trying 2 get supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua - on Dec. 31, 1972.

I hope u all will take a moment 2 acknowledge as I do each yr (my mom grew up watching him in Pittsburgh so its tradition)! He was a GREAT human both on & off the field!

This Day in Hockey History – December 17

1924 – On this day in 1924, Jake Forbes of the Hamilton Tigers and Alex Connell for the previous incarnation of the Ottawa Senators, became the first two patrolers of the paint with a shutout in the same game.  The NHL, in it’s eighth season, had it first tie game in history.

1982 – The Hartford Whalers, after 135 games, enjoyed their first road shutout in team history against the Winnipeg Jets.  Mike Veisor was the net minder to accomplish the feat in the third season of the Whalers existence.

1983 – Wayne Gretzky notched his 800th point and 500th career assist in an 8-1 victory over the Quebec Nordiques (Now the ).  He had a goal and 5 assists in that one.

1986 -  Three years to the day later, the “Great One" registered one assist and four goals with a natural hattie to lead the Oilers to the “W" over, again, the Nordiques.  It was Wayne’s 41st career hat trick.

1991 – The Pittsburgh Penguins had an 8 goal second period, setting a single period goal scoring record for the franchise.  The very young victim was the San Jose Sharks losing 10-2.  This, the Sharks inaugural season, would play out quite the same ending with a record of 17-58-5. For those unfamiliar with hockey, two facts:  17 is the number of wins which means that San Jose Sucked with a capital “S".

In the 1983-84 season, Gretzky would win the Art Ross and Hart trophies as well as set other records. His 87 goals in the season, was not enough to break the record of 92 goals previously set by, who else, the "Great One".

Also on December 17th, 2022, the Tampa Bay Lightning spanked the Montreal Canadians 5-1. Sorry S.S.

That was some of what happened on this day in hockey history for December 17th.

Don't forget the ALT text.
