J'ai profité de ce trip nordique pour reprendre mes classiques avec un œil adulte, si possible en VO.
1ère confrontation avec #Tolkien en anglais : c'est très fluide en fait. On sent l'aspect oral d'un récit d'abord imaginé pour ses enfants, mais c'est aussi plus dark que dans mes souvenirs. En 300 pages Le vieux barde avait posé les bases de toute une mythologie - et de tous les JDR, au passage (compagnie, péripéties, boss de fin, trésor)

A visit to a charity shop in Winchester uncovered this little beauty. A 1966 3rd edition by Unwin. Was initially very excited to see a signature, but on closer inspection & a web search, it's actually a facsimile found on all these copies. Still an absolute bargain at just £2! #tolkien #thehobbit

En 2021, le centre a signé un accord avec le fond #Tolkien pour la reproduction d'œuvres de l'auteur notamment celles #TheHobbit.
Pour respecter la période, les lissiers ont utilisé des techniques en vogue dans les années 1930, limitant les mélanges importants de couleurs. Certaines tapisseries sont réalisées de côté pour permettre les ombrages d'origine. Les tapisseries sont grand format ce qui est un régal pour les yeux.

1. Tolkien over-translated (or, well, localised) to the point of erasing huge swathes of his own worldbuilding. This treatment calls #TheHobbit into question as well, which was purportedly written by Bilbo but is clearly narrated from a human perspective: someone took serious liberties when copying or translating, and we know the translator isn't always true to source.
