Until this year, I'd never read anything by H. G. Wells (not sure how that happened), so I've decided to read a few of his most influential and famous novels in the order of publication, staring with The Time Machine. Today, I finished reading The Island of Dr. Moreau. Thought the first half a bit of a slog. Second half picked up both in terms of the actual story and the philosophical explorations.

Watched #TopGunMaverick, so I watched #Val, so I (finally) watched #TheIslandOfDrMoreau and of course it was much better than most people - Kilmer etc included - claimed. In modern Marvelwood it would count as a bold, ambitious, visionary, daring spectacle. It’s obviously not any kind of masterpiece and there are many well-documented scare stories from on-set, but it worked well enough for me. More Brando than I thought I was going to get as well.
