Today’s listening is ‘Smile’, the 2000 album by The Jayhawks.
In particular I’ve been listening to the 2014 vinyl reissue of this album.
On this record The Jayhawks mostly moved away from their more ‘folksy Americana’ style towards a heavier rock, almost pop, sound on many of the tracks.
For me, side 1 is stronger than side 2, with side 1 featuring some great tracks such as ‘Smile’ and ‘I’m Gonna Make You Love Me’.
Well worth a listen!

#GreatAlbums1990s - #TheJayhawks – #HollywoodTownHall (1992). Largely overlooked during the heyday of grunge, this Twin Cities outfit resurrected the spirit of Gram Parsons with forlorn lyrics and soaring harmonies. “Waiting for the Sun” tumbles down the highway in an open-top car. “Clouds” and “Sister Cry” cruise the misty mountains. And “Two Angels” strips the mud from an earlier version. Poco without the dross, or the Eagles on less cocaine.

Today’s listening is ‘Rainy Day Music’, the 2003 album by The Jayhawks.
My copy is the 2014 reissue-a double LP with extra tracks.
This has to be one of my very favourite albums and for me is The Jayhawk’s best.
Jangling guitars and packed with great melodies and vocals.
Hard to pick out favourite tracks, as they are all great, but perhaps ‘Eyes of Sarahjane’ and ‘Angelyne’ would be the ones for me if pushed.
Well worth your time!
