Missing #TheJesusandMaryChainTop10 today.
Many thanks to @tansleyjames@twitter.com for setting the challenge.
1 - Head On (Automatic, 1989)
In many ways the antithesis of everything else I love about JAMC. The walls of feedback and distortion excised and driven by synth bass and drum machine. Eccentric pop perfection.
2 - Snakedriver (Sound of Speed EP, 1993)
Sleazy blues rock that shimmies and stomps towards a wall of feedback and distortion. Beautiful.
3 - Reverence (Honey's Dead, 1992)
Utterly danceable dirge like baggy industrial. Fantastic album opener and as controversy-baiting as ever.
4 - Blues from a Gun (Automatic, 1989)
Some beefy riffing and my favourite lyrics of any JAMC song. The lyrics are a perfect fit for the melody. It's a pop song of the highest order.
5 - Darklands (Darklands, 1987)
A break from the noise of feedback and distortion. Moody introspection that has its own romance and heartache.
6 - The Living End (Pyschocandy, 1985)
The track that effectively got me into JAMC. They made an artform of feedback.
7 - UV Ray (Automatic, 1989)
The combination of William Reid's heavy riffing with the relentless drum machine assault and the spacious production pushes JAMC towards a more industrial sound.
8 - April Skies (Darklands, 1987)
JAMCs highest charting single. Maybe a bit of an obvious choice, but it's a gorgeous pop song in all its sullen beauty.
9 - I Hate Rock 'N' Roll (Hate Rock 'N' Roll, 1995)
More squealing and whining feedback. Just a bit better produced. It never gets old. And if there's one thing that the brothers Reid hate it's not rock 'n' roll.
10 - Tumbledown (Honey's Dead, 1992)
Quasi-industrial in places and the feedback drenched sections feel like a massive nod to the Pyschocandy days.
