On the morning of April 29, 1986, a fire alarm sounded in the Los Angeles Public Library. This was not the usual fire alarm. The fire was disastrous: it reached 2000 degrees and burned for more than seven hours. By the time it was extinguished, it had consumed four hundred thousand books and damaged seven hundred thousand more. More than thirty years later, the mystery remains: Did someone purposefully set fire to the library—and if so, who?

I just finished reading "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn. It's time to start reading "Flights" by Olga Tokarczuk! Last year I read little and I really want to read more this year. Any recommendations are welcome! #thelibrary #books #reading
My short personal EOY list of books out of what I've been reading. Wishing a good turn-of-the-year to everybody🕯️:
☞ Bell Hooks, Talking Back: Thinking Feminist, Thinking Black.
[🖤]
☞ Nawal El Saadawi, Woman at Point Zero.
[Iconic, Heartbreaking]
☞ Robin D. G. Kelley, Freedom Dreams
[In the midst of reading it but can already tell it goes STRAIGHT TO THE TOP]
☞ Melanie Mitchell, Complexity: A Guided Tour.
[liked it for the topic and accessible writing, despite a bit too much cult of the outdated "male genius" figure and a few neo-liberal assumptions]
Next upcoming, probably :
☞ Leanne Simpson, Dancing on our Turtle's Back.

My most memorable reading experiences (novels) in 2022:
* Fernanda Melchor - Hurricane Season
* Attila Bartis - Tranquility
* Juan Rulfo - Pedro Páramo
* Louis-Ferdinand Céline - Normance
* Marcel Proust - In Search Of Lost Time (always reading this book but it deserves inclusion because I started over again with my partner this year)

I haven't read a lot of Nobels to be honest, but Olga Tokarczuk is definitely one of my favorite writers. I recently read "Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead", a murder mystery, dark feminist comedy as someone described it. I'm very curious about "Flights", probably my next read! #theLibrary #illustration #graphite #mixedmedia #TraditionalArt

I picked this up from the giveaway bookshelf outside of a used bookstore somewhere in Virginia last year. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, and now I’m wondering if it has any use in #uxntal #varvara programming. Could be a fun read. #thelibrary
One of the best books I have ever read is 'Middlesex' by Jeffrey Eugenides.

New addition to #TheLibrary. I love hunting through charity shops. This was bought in a shop raising money for male mental health. So a good investment in many ways. #crafts #folktraditions #folk
