Just felt like sharing a bit from one of my favorite stories I've written, because why not?

"And Simba? Did you kill him too?"

"No. I assume him dead, but I don't fully trust the hyenas. They told me he's dead, but they returned with no trace of blood or fur on them. So I...suspect if he survived, it wasn't for long." The way he spoke was so blunt...so matter of fact that it almost hurt Nala to hear. Her brow was furrowed with what seemed like a permanent snarl on her muzzle. But this was a rare opportunity, and it seemed like Scar wasn't going to stop yet. And so, she continued.

"And what about me? What do you want from me, Scar? To be your fuck pet? Your puppet queen? Someone to suffer under you?" These questions actually made Scar's head move back as if in shock and confusion, though his expression didn't change.

"I...sought you as my queen, yes. But I assure you it wouldn't have been to make you suffer. Though...perhaps that would've been impossible given everything that's happened." His head shifted in thought as he continued to reflect on the possibilities. "Yes...that would've been impossible. You never would've been happy with me as I've come to be known. Which...is a shame." A weak smile spread across his face as he looked up at her and sat down on his haunches. "I do think the world of you, Nala. Perhaps had I not made such a royal mess of things, I could've shown you myself without my demons."

"I doubt it." She spat at him, remaining standing as she searched her mind for other questions. This chance at knowledge was rare...and she needed to know more. "So what next? Now that you've ruined Pride Rock, what now?"

"Why, you leave and go find another lion to usurp the throne and kill me."

As an example, there were two personal stories that I just...went OFF with. I'd wanted to write them for such a long time, and after they were finished? I felt this happy sense of relief like I was able to be happy with what I created. And though I enjoy writing commissions for the most part, it's just so different when you're catering to what you want instead of what others want.

This first story was something I didn't know how I would accomplish. Two characters I love who are both mute and quadrupedal. You have to be very. Very. VERY careful to make sure everything is conveyed properly and doesn't verge on anything like bestiality or non-consensual. But ultimately, I think I was able to capture their individual identities, make it a story that had a 'feel good' sense to it, and...was a lot of fun to create.

This second story had been living in my mind for YEARS. I'd wanted to do something where Nala and Scar got together, but in a way that felt natural, didn't verge on anything non-consensual, and made sense. When it was all said and done, I feel like I accomplished that and then some. I was SO happy with the result, and it just...it's one of the best feelings I've had from finishing a story.

So again. Be selfish! Cater to your needs! And above all, create art that YOU love!

4/x Iroko trees are also planted at shrines and other important locations, where they become sacred trees, and the Iroko is widely known as the #TreeOfLife in Nigeria (another Tree of Life - last week the #Yew, too!) In #TheLionKing, though, where this picture is from, it is (somewhat confusingly!) one of the landmarks on the way to the Tree of Life ... (and looks a bit different too, so might have to check this!)

I was adding some shadows to the caves around our perimeter when I heard Tarin busting out into the Circle of Life intro. I turn around and he’s on the edge of a small cliff that stuck out by our house. So I was like “I could totally build a discount Pride Rock…” So our teamwork led to this. Sorry not sorry.

I may actually put effort into making this a legit shot after the forest is finished. But then again I’ll likely totally forget.

Making my way through #TheLionGuard and man is this timeline convoluted! It would have been way better to have a series focused on Kiara and Kovu's cub.

I also wish it was more educational since it is aimed at a young audience. Why does the cheetah have such an ugly and inaccurate design? Why are the hyenas and lions barking and the zebras neighing?

They had an opportunity to educate kids on real life ecosystems while exploring the Pridelands but didn't. It's wasted potential.

Kiara fell asleep, swaying on those vines. Her father had shown her this haven of peace a few weeks ago and to appease the heat she came there to soak in the lagoon.

She widened her eyes, stretching herself.
Her eyes found with the golden ones of that enormous leopard, that he licked his lips with a brilliant smile on his face.

God almighty. Never fails. It doesn't matter which version I watch (original animated film, live action reboot, Broadway performance) -- once the first note sounds in "Circle of Life" ('The Lion King'), the waterworks turn on, and the spigot's stuck. Bawling like a baby, that's me.

When I first saw the animated film in the theater ages ago, I started crying even *before* I knew what the story was about. I guess it's even worse now that I know Simba's prodigal son journey.
