I happened to watch classic 90's Space disaster movie #apollo13 while I've been listening through #themartian by #andyweir #audiobook (the excellent #rcbray version). It's my 2nd reading though I've seen the film many times. Spotted a few nods to Apollo 13 so far including the phrase "Steely eyed missile man" that I probably wouldn't have otherwise, I'm primed now to look for more! #books

I've just realised that #TheMartian is actually set in the UK.

The evidence?

It takes over 9 months to get supplies through customs, and most of them never arrive.

His only contact with the real world is a chatroom controlled by the government.

His drinking water is yellow.

He's forced to grow potatoes in his own shit to survive.

He eats his food dipped in drugs because he ran out of ketchup.

He feels completely alone and wants to become a pirate.

He'll do suicidally stupid things because the government tells him it's a good idea.
