I feel like they changed the character of #Spock way too much from the original series. He seems far more emotional to me, and that lack of continuity breaks some of the immersion for me. However, everyone I've spoken to that watches #strangenewworlds doesn't seem bothered by that, and it's been a while since I've watched #theoriginalseries so I'm wondering if I'm just off?

Watching ST:TOS S03:E21, "The Cloud Minders".

First off, pretty much every episode in the latter half of this season, even the decent ones, completely misunderstands these characters. Here, we have Spock telling done rando about pon farr. Sure. Okay. 🙄

That aside, this episode...these people - the ~eloi and morlocks~ cloud dwellers and troglites - must all be Republicans. I've never seen another group of people quite so ignorant and afraid of masks.

I have come to the end of 'Star Trek: The Original Series'. I did enjoy it, if only a few time I found myself utterly bored by an episode. I grew up with 'TNG', and 'TOS' reruns. There was a lot of 'TOS' that I had missed, but I didn't miss a trick this viewing.

So much to love, so, so many moments that aged like raw milk soft cheese. But there's no faulting the aesthetic. The Enterprise of TOS is a thing of absolute beauty and a joy forever. I want to incorporate its influence into as many aspects of my life as possible.

The poly love of Kirk, Spock and McCoy is also an ageless beauty of queer luxuriousness. It's the heart, the gravitational centre of the collective celestial body that is the Enterprise. It's the reason why it endures.

And Spock is still my absolute favourite and MVP.

Special mention to the spheres and conical props that make up various parts of Nomad ('The Changeling' S02E03), the Mind Orbs ('Return to Tomorrow' S002E20), & the Cloaking Device ('The Enterprise Incident' S03E02) among others.

I really am champing at the bit to get into the films and 'TNG'.

Every once in a while 'Star Trek: The Original Series' gives you something like 'The Omega Glory' S02E23 which is so wrong, you do wonder about your choice to revisit. So far my least favourite episode of the series.

Stray observations: As I come to the back end of seasons 2, I just want to acknowledge how very camp, and just unequivocally queer, the Original Series is, far more than I recall, or indeed, that it ever intended to be. There are aspects that age like fine wine coexisting with things that aged like warm milk.

One such delectable aspect is the general aesthetic of the series, and especially of the personnel quarters on the Enterprise, which is life. So red, so blue, so primary, yet with that retro muteness. Digital pastel, Martian red. Peppered seamlessly with the cabinet of curiosities style cultural artefact eclecticism and LED sparkles. Gives me life.
