There were things I liked about the found footage horror #TheOutwaters. I'm not a found- footage fan. I'm older and tend to prefer a stationary, highly editorialized point of view. But this film is highly artful, editorial. Its subjects are likable, young, bright, artistic, curious. I enjoyed the play with light, sound. perspective. It became a little overwhelming at the end and for my taste dragged on just a bit. Not for the faint of heart. But overall a dark, horrific offering. #horror #movie

I had #TheOutwaters recommended to me by some friends, and I do not regret seeking it out. First found footage horror movie I've seen in a long while that does found footage horror right: less Hollywood artifice, more mumblecore/mockumentary mundanity on the surface combined with dream logic that turns into a waking nightmare.

Was really looking forward to seeing #TheOutwaters in the theater, but I'd have to drive 2 hours just to see it. Sadly, not streaming anywhere until after the theatrical run, either. Fuck me for living outside of a big city, I guess. It's so infrequent I actually want to go to a theater for a movie, and inevitably when I do, it's not showing anywhere I can realistically get to.

I'm like, "Okay YouTube, I'm probably not going to watch the new found-footage horror film, The Outwaters (2023), but sure I'll check out the trailer."

And then I'm like,"Why is there a beach in a movie about kids lost in the desert?"

It was a trailer for The Outer Banks S3 on Netflix. Of course YouTube is being paid to show me the Netflix show and not the indie horror film.
