Finished THE POPPY WAR by R. F. Kuang.
Still digesting how I feel about it.

I did have to laugh at the first half when I realized that the young woman (Kuang) from the backwards southern province (Texas) goes to the capital (D.C.) to train at the feeder school for imperial bureaucrats (Georgetown)

#Bookstodon, I've just finished #ThePoppyWar trilogy. The weight on my heart after reading that last chapter is almost unbearable; this trilogy paints such a haunting view of what it takes to survive in a world where you must co-exist with your oppressors, where the winners of a war come out just as beaten & broken as the losers.

Fang Runin, a monster, a goddess. Just like Kitay, I think I would've followed her until the bitter end, too. What a monster of a book. I'll never forget it.
