This year I discovered Claire Keegan's fiction. After I read her novella, Foster, I was truly blown away by the power of her narrative style. Having grown up in an (immigrant) Irish Catholic family, it truly resonated.

Stunned to learn that Colm Bairéad used the story as the basis of his film, nominated for an Oscar, called "The Quiet Girl", in English, (Irish title "An Cailín Ciúin") and much of it is in the Irish language.

Watching The #Banshees of Inisherin for a second time, after seeing #TheQuietGirl (An Cailín Ciúin), I was struck by certain tragic parallels between the protagonist of the latter and Dominic, the policeman's son (played by #BarryKeoghan), from the former.

I rated 3 films 10/10 last year.
CODA was one and it won 3 Oscars and 2 BAFTAs.
Another was The Quiet Girl, and it's now nominated for 2 BAFTAs and an Oscar.
The third was The Valet. It didn't get a cinema release to trigger awards attention. But it's on a par with the other two for me.
