I interview a lot of thermal energy storage innovators and it seems to be a very global research field. Thermal energy storage is big news for the transition to 100% renewables for climate as it is cheaper than batteries, can discharge over more than 12 hours daily, and has a long lifetime like pumped hydro, but can be built anywhere.
