give up the strain
of correcting
actually, factually
that's not a dinosaur

let them be elevated
by mistake
and let them take
a little fame
let the Ichthyosaur,
the Plesiosaur,
the Pterosaur,
the Poposaur,
and the Edaphosaur
become a little more
popular?

Arthropleura,
the Carboniferous
diplopode arthropod

never met a theropod
in its life
living some sixty
million years
and more
before
theropods evolved

Yet it,
like so many
among the extinct,
languishes
forgotten
in the shadow
of the dinosaurs

they loom
they obscure
the popular vision
of so many other
extinct flora
and fauna
