Apparently, Hawthorne also put a “W”in his surname to disassociate himself from his #Puritan forebears and gave his firstborn a name from The Faerie Queene, much to the chagrin of his family. #TheScarletLetter author was also a righteous badass. #highschool #englishteachers, I beg you—include this in your lessons!
