Based on LoRaWAN, it is ideal for a broad array of data monitoring applications, ranging from farm management to the tracking of air quality in NYC low-income housing. And it's powered by a network of two hundred thousand volunteers located in 153 countries (sound familiar?).

🔮 We have come forward since #daytum or #pachube but still, basically, want to "see our dots on the map". Whether on foot or on bike, our ubiquitous data footprints are in space and time. It would be fun to combine #TTNmapper with #GPSart - the colour of the dots changing based on connectivity as you walk around the city.

This afternoon we tested the open network around Oerlikon, and found the reception lacking. Of course the closed networks are ubiquitous here - but I wonder if our event will encourage someone in the area to deploy a 🛰️ #thethingsnetwork gateway. @dasyaITU is hosting and testing a number of gateways, reaching sweden, germany and a lot of the (baltic) sea.

Do you know The Things Network?
The idea is to build a free non-commercial low power network for #IoT,
for communities, people and businesses to use.
Currently, it is made up out of approximately 20,000 volunteer gateways -
with the highest density around the project's origin, the Netherlands.

The low energy aspect is interesting - we dont need power-hungry #5G to collect environmental data.

Question: is #HeliumNetwork better or just different? From my first test functionality seems the same and Helium irritates me with that Cryptocurrency stuff...

Worthy of special note, we've now got LoRaWAN support for a whole list of boards with LoRa radios in the TinyGo Drivers package. Go long range!

Glad we got cold hardy chickens; overnight it officially dropped to -13F / -25C measured on our Davis weather station.

We monitor the chicken coop/run temp/humidity and the water level/temperature thru #HomeAssistant with #LoRaWan sensors thru #TheThingsNetwork
