Red Poppies Campaigns vol 1: Ypres is possibly unique amongst historical #boardgames in having 3 maps that all depict the exact same area but at different periods of time in the same conflict, namely the 1914, 1915, and 1917 battles. They don’t just show how little the front lines changed but the degradation of the natural features over time. I often get the maps out at cons to show this aspect.

@zen #hexandccounter #boardgames don’t always work well in TTS. Especially those with tall stacks. Vassal is a better choice for those. Even so there are things the module creator can do to make them function better, and use the features of TTS to an advantage. When teaching folks how to use TTS and Vassal (for #TheWargameBootcamp ) folks pick up TTS quicker despite the quirky interface. Area based game can shine in TTS with a few tweaks.

An activity that sometimes blurs the line into work is teaching folks how to play board #wargames at the #TheWargameBootcamp. We regularly attend such California cons as #PacificonGameExpo & #SDHist.

The goal is to teach folks how to play #boardgames with a historical flavour aka #consim, #hexandcounter, and various types of board #wargames. Our audience could be newbies, #Grognard, or returnees to the #boardgame hobby. We aim to teach games in an entertaining & an informative manner.
