watching a #NotJustBikes video this morning and realizing i don’t have a good #ThirdPlace to hand around.

This is strange but totally common logic of many #place #design strategies that translate (ignore) social context to extract value from one kind of place into another.

#ThirdPlace by (ideal) definition is non #workplace. Making work space look like non work space (eg a coffee shop) does not change the fundamental social relationships of labour and capital. It just places them in a new setting.

The Third Place is such an important concept.
My town has luckily received funding to build a new library, and they'll be including maker spaces with it as well. However I know my town council so I'll be following them like a hawk to make sure they do it right.

Where do you go as your #ThirdPlace ?

(A third place is not home or work but another third place where one might go to socialize or get inspired or reflect or maybe just get drunk, IDK, but three generations ago there was a lot of "clubs" and social commitments that involved face to face communication that is much less common now.)

I can't come up with a reasonable "third place" where I, or the imagined masses of my community, might want to hang out and chat.

Church, bar, coffee joint, book store? All but the church are too commercial.

So what I personally find incredible interesting about the last #VicElection and even more so the fallout that came from it, is the huge blunders made by the #VicLibs and their propaganda machine at #SkyNewsAus and the #HeraldSun in particular, but also by many more media outlets and fringe parties.

And that is that they thought they could decide the debate and talking points of this election.

But the journalists over at #theage had done quite a bit of research in where the people of Victoria wanted to talk about:

For those who haven't read it, the picture shows the top issues: Integrity, Health, Environment, Transport, Cost Of Living, Education.

Looking at the 'winners' of the last election (The Nationals, the Socialists, The Greens, even the ALP a bit) these were the parties actually actively debating these issues and didn't keep themselves too busy with 'the steps the premier fell off.'

It actually gives me a bit of hope for the future that we might be discussing the citizen's agenda going forward and not pay attention to what Murdoch says the discourse would be.

Like what is happening now. Another attack on wokeness, battling against the Voice to Parliament.

I have discussions in my local - my #thirdplace - and these are not the discussions going on. But Cost Of Living and Rail-lines are.
