TIL René Descartes, influential philosophy and mathematician, was at the Battle of White Mountain, an early and important battle during the Thirty Years’ War.

I don’t know how that’s actually important, other than it connects my interest in philosophy with my interest in military history.

He was on the oppressive imperialist side, but that’s more a matter of where he was from.
