@Mariewalsh18 hashtags live at the beginning of a word or phrase (with no space between) to indicate the subject of your toot.

DMs do exist on Mastodon. To send someone a DM, you tap on their avatar to go to their profile, then tap on the `@` symbol near the top of their profile.

You can see your DM list by going to your own profile page, it has a link.

@Daniel_Berky @zaichishka let's you search posts, accounts and hashtags. Also has (so far as I can tell as early days on here for me too) a local feed option and a global one that I can switch between. Key to remember re hashtags is to Sentence Capitalise them eg #ThisIsAHashtag, so screen readers can read them

Only last week, I heard for the first time about that hashtags with capitals are easier accessible for some people.

And there are other examples, e.g. neopronouns.

So if you see older posts or blogs etc. - do consider that the person maybe didn't have the knowledge back then.

The communication in Social Media and on the internet is not fixed and carved in stone, it is ever-changing. What may be considered fine today, may be not tomorrow.
