On this morning's bike ride I left Assen along this residential road. In the past it was sometimes a bit unpleasant because of through traffic, but a few years ago the road was closed to through motor traffic so it's much more pleasant now. Drivers have fewer possible routes to take in and out of the city than are available to cyclists.
